The most requested aspect of a landscape used to be…”just get me to the water”. Now the granite steps and flagstone walkway to the boathouse or water’s edge may also lead to a multi-purpose sport court or a sand volleyball court or even a fire pit, as it passes by the man made water feature that looks like it was always there.
Sport courts are now a popular feature in many Muskoka landscapes. These courts/rinks let you and the kids play almost every sport imaginable. From full size, multi-purpose tennis courts that can also be a rink in the winter to a basketball half court that can include a rebounder system, a ball containment system or a multi-purpose net system a home owner and guests can look forward to playing a variety of sports in their own “backyard”. Usually located near the water’s edge a fire pit can be surrounded by sand or for a more formal look a granite flagstone patio so your Muskoka chair won’t sink. Either way the fire pit is a gathering spot to share the day’s adventures or just take in the beauty of the Muskoka night sky.
Water features are also gaining popularity in the Muskoka landscape. Many times the property requires a functional solution to a drainage problem and a meandering stream bed and/or pond is just the right answer. Other times the home owner is looking for the subtle sound of water cascading down a waterfall.
